Walk amidst marine and freshwater animals at UnderWater World. Located on the Sunshine Coast of Mooloolaba, feel free to explore four levels and eleven zones of sea-related attractions.
The new Turtle Temple zone is filled with Polynesian temple ruins that house recovering sea turtles of various species and sizes. The turtles are a part of the rescue, rehabilitation and release program of Underwater World.
Meanwhile, the Shark Shipwreck zone is where you’ll find eight shark species. Be prepared to face these impressive creatures as they swim through the remains of a ruined submarine inside an 80-metre long tunnel.
The zone Bay of Rays is where a collection of sleek and smoothly gliding eagle rays can be seen. Expect cownose rays and leopard rays in the seawater tank.
Meanwhile, colourful fishes abound at Coral Cove. See them swim in and around the remains of a shipwreck.
UnderWater World has more than 50 species of fish swimming inside 2.5 million litres of water.
Toddlers aged 2 years old and below can enter UnderWater World for free.
You need 2 hours to completely explore the area. UnderWater World is entirely undercover thus you can have a great time even if it is raining or hot outside.
Senior Trip Advisor Reviewer “teamweiss” describes UnderWater World as “Entertaining for a one-off visit.”
“Interesting displays – you can work your way through the place in a couple of hours – not really an 'all day thing'. I've been back periodically over the last three years or so and it doesn't really change from one visit to the next. The kids like the seal and otter shows though.”
But Trip Advisor Senior Contributor “Dimpl3z” finds UnderWater World as “Very out-dated.”
“There are a lot of things they could do with this place, but unfortunately it has not really changed much in the last decade. It is more focused at children and unfortunately there are some major hygiene issues I feel around where the food is served. The whole thing may take two hours if you have a few little kids.”
Another Senior Trip Advisor Contributor named “Search” finds UnderWater World as “Great for kids.”
“Lots to see at Underwater world. Kids love touching things so being able to dip their hands in the water and touch the starfish and other little critters is always a hit.
My kids loved the underwater viewing tunnel and many circuits were done checking out the fish, rays and sharks.
The seal show is always entertaining and a good place to have a rest from all your walking around. This place is definitely worth a visit with young kids as they will always find something new to see.”
However “Kat535” describes it as “..the worst aquarium I have ever seen in my life.”
“You would expect that Australia with all its variety of wild life has a lot to offer in it is aquarium. Do not be mistaken. It is the worst aquarium I have ever seen in my life. Ridiculous price for what it has to offer (we paid the same money in Singapore oceanarium and it was amazing). It is old, there is absolutely nothing interesting.”
